Treatment is about making sure that the body is balanced, that the gravitational forces are travelling through it naturally and that all the soft tissue and joints are doing their job. If soft tissue is restricted or a joint isn’t moving enough, all anatomy around it may get impacted, or the joints directly next to it may have too much work to do. It isn’t surprising that the body would develop symptoms in such cases.
Osteopathic treatment tends to be comfortable. It is about guiding the body into a sense of neutrality. The body wants to be balanced and tensions are always there for a reason — certain areas of the body may have too much to do or to little opportunity to move given the current context. Once we address this context, tensions then tend to resolve on their own, as they are no longer needed.
